As a dermatology resident or fellow, the AAD provides you with a complimentary membership, which is valued at $750.

Graduating this year? 

  • If you are going into practice, you must apply for membership to continue receiving your AAD benefits. Apply within the year you graduate and pay only $225 (normally $750) for your first year of membership.
  • If you are going into a fellowship, have your program director complete the Complimentary Graduate Fellowship Membership Request Form to continue receiving your complimentary membership.

One of the most anticipated events in a resident’s career is taking the Boards. Learn more about Boards prep on the American Board of Dermatology site.

The AAD offers a variety of resources to help you prepare.

  • View the Boards’ Fodder section in current and past issues of Directions in Residency, a quarterly publication for residents.
  • Listen to Dialogues in Dermatology, the Academy’s monthly audio subscription program in which leading dermatologists discuss current clinical issues.
  • Read Derm Clips, a monthly publication that includes evidence-based summaries of clinical content from a broad range of medical journals.
  • Watch Boards Blitz for two hours of board prep insight, tips, and resources that you can view while studying.
  • Review the AAD’s Medical Student Core Curriculum to cover the basics of dermatology when preparing for the Boards.
  • Explore peer-recommended Boards study tools that include books, study guides, websites, and quizzes.

Getting ready to transition into practice? The AAD offers a number of resources to guide you in this transition.

  • The practice management resources area of AAD.org offers a wealth of resources about coding and reimbursement, compliance, health information technology, and more to keep you informed.
  • View current and past issues of Directions in Residency, a quarterly publication for residents.
  • Read Dermatology World, the Academy's flagship member publication, which offers practical insight and analysis to help dermatologists navigate practice, policy and patient care issues in a changing health care environment. 
  • Attend the Practice Management Symposium for Residents, which is designed for second- and third-year dermatology residents to impart essential practice-management skills.
  • Attend the AAD’s Practice Management and Coding Course, which offers innovative solutions for how to manage a dermatology practice.
  • Attend the Resident Transitions course at the Annual Meeting to better understand the Boards exam process and the challenges of launching a career in dermatology.
  • Review the Professional and Ethical Standards for Dermatologists booklet as it pertains to your AAD membership.

Residents/Fellows Committee

The Resident/Fellows Committee supports the interests of and addresses issues of concern to residents and fellows in training during post-graduate education. It promotes effective communication and action toward these ends between individuals, training programs, graduate medical education societies, and the Academy.
