The Award

The Gold Triangle Awards are conducted annually by the American Academy of Dermatology to recognize and honor media, industry, health community and individual efforts that further public understanding of dermatologic conditions and concerns, and encourage healthy behaviors in the care of the skin, hair, and nails.

The online application will close on Friday, Sept. 25, 2009.

Eligibility

The Gold Triangle Awards are open to all individuals and organizations that fall under the following categories: media, public service/health community organization, public service/health community individual, or dermatology industry. Public relations firms also are eligible to enter on behalf of a client.


To be eligible:

  • The entry must have been published and/or implemented between Aug. 1, 2008 and July 1, 2009.
  • The entry must have been originally created by the entrant and must further public understanding of dermatologic conditions and concerns.
  • All applications and entry submission materials must be in English.

Categories

Entries may be submitted in one of the following four categories:

Media

All entrants must be journalists or free-lance writers/editors working in print, broadcast or Web-based media. Entries must have been published or broadcast between Aug. 1, 2008 and July 1, 2009, and must have furthered public understanding of dermatologic conditions and concerns. If an entry is comprised of a series of articles, programs, or Web postings, the final installment of the series must have appeared by July 1, 2009. View Examples.

Public Service/Health Community Organization

All entrants must be nonprofit organizations or government agencies with an original program, campaign, project, or activity that furthered public understanding of dermatologic conditions and concerns. View Examples.

Public Service/Health Community Individual

All entrants must be public service or health community professionals, or individuals who have an original program, campaign, project, or activity that furthered public understanding of dermatologic conditions and concerns. Anyone may nominate an individual to receive this award. The Academy also may seek outstanding candidates for this honor and actively solicit nominations. Self-nominations are accepted. Dermatology Industry

All entrants must be from companies with an original marketing, advertising, or viral campaign (branded or non-branded) that furthered public understanding of dermatologic conditions and concerns. The campaign must have been implemented between Aug. 1, 2008 and July 1, 2009. An advertising or public relations agency may submit an entry on behalf of a client. View Examples.

PLEASE NOTE: If, in the opinion of the Academy, an entry is submitted in the wrong category, the Academy reserves the right to transfer the submission to another, more appropriate, category. The Academy reserves the right to consolidate multiple submissions, where appropriate.

Judging Criteria

A distinguished panel of American Academy of Dermatology members will evaluate entries and select winners based on the following criteria, relevant to their category:

  1. Did the entry raise public awareness of dermatologic issues among the targeted audience(s)?
  2. Did the entry enhance public awareness of the dermatologist as the expert in the medical, surgical, and cosmetic treatment of skin, hair, and/or nail conditions?
  3. Did the entry help enhance public perception of, or attitude toward, healthy behaviors as they relate to dermatologic issues?
  4. How creative and original are the entry materials and/or the execution of the program?
  5. What is the quality of the dermatologic information? Is it scientifically accurate?

How to Enter

To complete the electronic entry form, you will need to:

  1. Choose the appropriate category for the entry (media, public service/health community organization, public service/health community individual, or dermatology industry).
  2. Provide your contact and company information.
      1. Dermatology industry entry: If you are a public relations firm submitting on behalf of a client, you will need to provide the client's information here.
  3. Provide entry information (title and date).
    1. Health community individual entry: If you are nominating yourself or someone else, you will need to provide the nominee's name here.
  4. Provide a synopsis of the entry, including:
    1. Description of the entry and its purpose (750 words max).
    2. How the entry promoted dermatology and positioned dermatologists as the experts in treating hair, skin, and/or nail conditions (750 words max).
    3. Description of the target audience (750 words max).
    4. Feedback and/or response from public audience(s) (750 words max).
  5. Attach appropriate visuals and supporting materials for the entry. Supporting materials should show evidence of the success of your work. See below for information about required attachments for each category:
    1. Media ~ Consumer Magazine, Newspaper and Trade Publications.
      1. Publication logo (in color as a .jpg, .tif, or .eps file).
      2. Front cover from the issue where the submission appeared.

    2. Media ~ Radio and Television
      1. Program or station logo (in color as a .jpg, .tif, or .eps file).

    3. Media ~ Web site

    4. Health Community Organization
      1. Organization logo (in color as a .jpg, .tif, or .eps file).
      2. Additional attachments that showcase the entry and support the submission (.wmv, mp3, .wav or .mpg file or.jpg, .tif, or .pdf file in its final size at 300 dpi).
    5. Health Community Individual
      1. Color photo of the nominee, suitable for Power Point presentation (.jpg, .tif or .pdf file in its final size at 100 dpi).
      2. Letter from the nominee acknowledging their willingness to be considered for the Gold Triangle Award.
      3. Additional attachments that support the nominee, including letters of recommendation, news articles and/or program materials (.wmv, mp3, .wav or .mpg file, or .jpg, .tif, or .pdf file in its final size at 300 dpi).
    6. Dermtology Industry
      1. Company logo and/or PR agency logo (in color as a .jpg, .tif, or .eps file)

  6. Complete the payment information.
  7. Submit your entry.

Entries must be received no later than Sept. 25, 2009, to be eligible for consideration. No extensions can be granted.

Entry Fees and Deadlines

The entry fee is $125 (non-refundable) per submission. Payment must accompany each entry. Please submit credit card information when completing the entry form. If you require alternate payment options, please contact Rachel Simpson or Kara McFarland. Entries must be received by Sept. 25, 2009. Entries received after the deadline date will not be reviewed.

All winners will be notified by Dec. 14, 2009. All winners will receive one Gold Triangle Award trophy. Each additional trophy will cost $100.

Apply/Nominate

The winners will be notified in December 2009. Several winners will be chosen within each of the four categories: media, health community organization, health community individual, and dermatology industry. All awards will be presented at the American Academy of Dermatology's 2010 Annual Meeting, March 5-9, in Miami. Winners will be notified about the date and time of the award presentation.
