The Inaugural Penn Center for Human Appearance (CHA) Comprehensive Facial Reconstruction Fall 2012 Symposium espouses the principles of multidisciplinary education by incorporating the expertise of various disciplines that perform facial reconstruction for injury, deformity, and aesthetics, namely: plastic surgery, dermatology, oculoplastic surgery, otorhinolaryngology, and oromaxillofacial surgery. Course participants from all medical and surgical specialties that treat physical appearance will learn how colleagues in each of these inter-related specialties approach facial reconstruction. Through didactic lectures, video demonstrations, hot topics, panel discussions, and cadaveric dissections, this symposium will reinforce well-established reconstructive concepts, highlight recent advances such as composite tissue allotransplantation, and question certain dogma related to facial reconstruction. The cadaveric dissections will be offered to a limited number of participants to further strengthen the principles noted above.
