Since 1985, volunteers for the American Academy of Dermatology’s melanoma/skin cancer screening program have conducted more than 2.1 million screenings and detected nearly 207,000 suspicious lesions, including more than 23,500 suspected melanomas. More than 2,000 volunteers conducted nearly 93,000 screenings in 2010, detecting 9,438 suspicious lesions and 957 suspected melanomas. The states in the top 10 by number of screenings conducted and a breakdown of patients screened by age appear below.
