Research agenda

The Academy is actively working to develop a focused research agenda for dermatology and advocate for increased funding for the research the AAD, with its stakeholders and patient interest groups, determines is most important to dermatologists and their patients.

The Council on Science and Research began work this past summer to define the parameters of the conversation, seeking input from key stakeholders regarding areas where more research is needed. A dermatology research agenda conference is scheduled for June 22–23, 2012, in Washington, D.C. The Academy will present stakeholders from across the country, along with representatives of various funding sources, background research currently being assembled by the Research Agenda Committee.

During the conference, important gaps in dermatologic research will be identified, which will prove useful when the Academy meets with industry, agencies that fund research, and legislators to advocate for increased funding. This list of research gaps may also help groups like the NIH and the Dermatology Foundation to target funding to areas where it will have the biggest impact for both physicians and patients.
