Leadership development

As part of our ongoing commitment to foster development of future leaders, the Academy launched its Leadership Institute in 2011. The initiative is aimed at helping dermatologists with leadership goals advance their careers and grow their abilities to lead their communities and specialty.

The Leadership Institute offered a variety of activities in 2011 based around training, mentoring, and networking. The 2012 Leadership Forum, to be held April 13-15 in Phoenix, will offer young dermatologists intensive sessions in setting vision and strategy, communicating effectively, and increasing self-awareness. The Academic Dermatology Leadership Program, which requires a year-long commitment to attending meetings and leadership forums, as well as connecting with a mentor, prepares the leaders of tomorrow through intensive instruction and skills development. In addition, 2011 saw the first advanced leadership symposium, jointly developed with the Center for Creative Leadership. Scholarships and grants are made available to developing leaders through member contributions and Academy programs.
