Practice resources

The Academy offers a wealth of resources to help dermatologists operate their businesses efficiently while meeting myriad compliance obligations and grappling with the challenges Medicare and managed care present.

As audits become increasingly prevalent within the medical practice environment, the Academy has created the Medicare RAC Audit Information Center, including a RAC audit toolkit to prepare dermatologists before they find themselves facing a Recovery Audit Contractor.

Staying current with health IT (HIT) is essential to dermatologists. The Academy recognizes this and keeps the HIT-kit updated with information on a variety of HIT-related topics, including the adoption of EHR, implementing e-prescribing, and HIT policy developments and regulatory compliance requirements. Read more about how to meet meaningful use requirements to earn EHR incentives in the June 2011 issue of Dermatology World.

With the Oct. 1, 2013, deadline to implement the ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes quickly approaching, aad.org has all the information to help guide dermatologists through the transition, including ICD-10 tips and FAQs, and the latest updates regarding HIPAA Version 5010. Dermatology World offered dermatologists guidance for handling the ICD-10 coding transition in the June 2011 issue.

In 2011, the Academy offered its Quality Reporting System to help dermatologists report dermatologic measures to Medicare and earn a bonus. The Academy will continue to offer the reporting system in 2012, when there will be four dermatology-appropriate measures to report, including three related to melanoma and a new measure for biopsies. More information on quality reporting is available on the Academy’s website.
