Individual supporters

Contributions from members and others provide immeasurable benefits to our patients, the public, and the specialty. Sustaining Fund donations in 2011 helped to:

Build seven additional shade structures to shield outdoor play areas from the sun through the AAD Shade Structure Program;
Recognize two outstanding young investigators with research grant awards through our Awards for Young Investigators in Dermatology;
Educate the public about the dangers of indoor tanning and the importance of sun safety, reaching more than 188 million with these important messages;
Expand AAD Camp Discovery to six weeks with locations in Connecticut, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Washington, annually giving nearly 350 kids the summer of a lifetime; and
Build strong leaders who will continue to advance the specialty at the community, state, and national level through the Academy’s Leadership Institute.

In 2011, we also formed a Major Gifts Work Group and laid the groundwork for our new Major Gifts Program — an Academy-wide effort to engage members in giving back to ensure the lasting strength and leadership of our profession. Expect to hear more about it in 2012.
